Ted’s Trout Farm
A Short History of the Trout Farm
The trout farm was started in the early 1970’s by Walter and Joan Winter. They were true pioneers with a taste for adventure and inspired by their environment and their imagination. The Winters visualized a trout farm using its own natural water sources as a means to growing top quality food fish, and as a unique and interesting way of life for themselves and their four young children.
They started the farm on a small scale without electricity. They raised rainbow trout fry in porcelain bathtubs in their basement, and transported their first restaurant orders of fresh whole trout in an inflatable kiddie’s swimming pool filled with ice in the trunk of their car. Their creativity and fortitude was boundless. We will be forever grateful to Joan and Walter’s vision, their efforts and their energy, which survives to this day.
About Us
We, Ted and Maureen Brown, have been the owners/operators of Ted’s Trout at Campbell Lake Trout Farm in Little Fort (North Thompson Valley), British Columbia, since 1985. Since then, the farm has grown and evolved to use new and improved farming practices to ensure the fish are raised in an efficient, healthy and sustainable way. Our ongoing goal is to keep the farm small and family-run. In the last few years, we have welcomed our youngest son, Noah, onto the trout-farming team. Noah brings a youthful, enthusiastic energy and a fresh look at the Ted’s Trout project. We are glad to have him on board.
We have been supplying Ted’s Trout in fresh, frozen, smoked, whole, and filleted form to local area consumers for over 25 years.
In keeping with our commitment to growing sustainable local food, we are working towards becoming the main trout supplier to a limited number of quality dining establishments in the Kamloops area. Our superior-quality and unique Kamloops Rainbow Trout is a healthful, environmentally and economically viable addition to any menu. We are honoured to offer ‘the finest trout without a doubt.’
